Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Senior Underwriter to join our team. This role is responsible for underwriting complex commercial loan requests, performing annual reviews, conducting financial spreads, and calculating global debt service. You will ensure that loan requests are underwritten in accordance with the Bank’s credit policies, procedures, and standards, while managing assigned credit transactions efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite complex commercial loan requests, ensuring consistency and adherence to the Bank’s credit policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Perform annual reviews, financial spreads, and global debt service calculations for commercial loans.
  • Manage assigned credit transactions, ensuring they are processed efficiently and in a timely manner, in line with the Bank’s standards.
  • Communicate with lenders, credit staff, and management regarding the creditworthiness of potential and existing borrowers.
  • Maintain the independence of the underwriting function and recommend the initial credit risk rating.
  • Exercise discretion and judgment regularly in performing essential job functions.
  • Ensure good punctuality and attendance to work, following all Bank policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Coordinate work tasks within the department and with other departments to ensure the smooth flow of information and efficiency.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general financial and banking principles.
  • Familiarity with bank regulations, including the Office of Foreign Asset Control, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Anti-Money Laundering Act, and the USA PATRIOT Act.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong credit skills and the ability to demonstrate effective customer service.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness in work.
  • Ability to maintain focus and concentration in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in processing and underwriting loans, preferably in the commercial sector.
  • Ability to coordinate and collaborate effectively with other departments to ensure smooth workflows.
  • Strong adherence to compliance standards and a thorough understanding of the Bank’s policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to complete all necessary training and engage in opportunities for career development.

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

 

  • Education/Training:  Bachelor degree in Business,  or commensurate work experience, required. Formal commercial credit training either from a bank management training program or external provider, such as RMA or Omega, preferred.

 

Skill(s): Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills; proficient PC skills; a working knowledge of the organization’s operating policies and procedures which impact loan services; a working knowledge of underwriting guidelines and loan documents; ability to analyze financial statements as well as loan and credit requests; visual and auditory skills.

           

  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years' of credit underwriting, financial analysis/management and/or lending work experience required, preferably including:
    • commercial and industrial;
    • owner-occupied commercial real estate;
    • accounts receivable/inventory; and
    • commercial and residential 'For Sale' and 'Income' properties.
