Summary of the Position:  George Junior Republic seeks a Grant Writer to serve the organization. The Grant Writer is responsible for researching and writing foundation, state, and federal grants to support George Junior Republic and Affiliates.

Description of Duty

Research

  • Research and find appropriate grant opportunities for George Junior Republic (GJR), GJR in PA, GJR in IN, and GJR Preventative Aftercare.

Relationships 

  • In conjunction with the Development Coordinator, build connections with funders.

Readiness

  • In partnership with various GJR affiliates and departments, ensure the organization is prepared to apply, manage, and track grant-related outcomes.  

Writing 

  • Have a clear understanding of GJR and Affiliate programs and organizational history.
  • Communicate the mission, vision, and values of the organization on a consistent and regular basis to grantors.
  • In coordination with the Development Coordinator, write tailored proposals to support funder and organizational priorities.
  • Revise and proofread applications.  
  • Generate high quality proposals, narratives, applications, and supporting documents in response to solicitations that are consistent with all GJR and Affiliate policies and procedures.

Grant Management 

  • Follow-up with grantor on grant application status.

Budget Development and Management  

  • Develop grant budgets following grant guidelines.
  • Collect expense documentation and track expenses.
  • Prepare budget reports.
  • Work collaboratively with the Finance team.

Documentation

  • Document grants researched, applied, granted, and denied.

Compliance 

  • Ensure legal reporting requirements are satisfied.


REQUIREMENTS

Education

Bachelor’s degree required, coursework in writing required, training/coursework in grant writing required; fundraising preferred.

Certification in Grant Writing preferred.

Licensure

N/A

Years of Experience 

At least three years grant writing and grant management experience

Computer Experience

Microsoft Applications, Adobe, digital marketing software, fundraising software

Other

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work with individuals representing diverse backgrounds, professions, and experiences.
  • Ability to work under pressure/deadlines
  • Proficiency in researching, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Detail oriented
