The Social Media Intern works collaboratively as a Marketing team member in creating engaging concepts and on-brand social media content [written and visual] for Portage Learning (and its nonprofit organization Portage Community) and related projects. The position works closely with the Social Media Specialist in the development and implementation of social media and marketing initiatives, advancing awareness, perceptions, and engagement of key audiences. The Social Media Intern will contribute in implementing content and tracking success through analytics.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

- Assist in maintaining all social media platforms for Portage Learning and Portage Community.
- Collaborates with internal and external partners to plan, manage, and develop new social media content for use across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
- Assist in the execution of social media communications strategy through content development, calendar management, and relationships with internal and external partners.
- Monitor the daily voice of Portage Learning and Portage Community by interacting with comments and followers.
- Make marketing team aware of any key issues and consult with internal teams as needed to formulate appropriate responses.
- Help to build and engage online audiences and communities including but not limited to: content development, brand advocacy/awareness, and facilitate conversation.
- Contribute to monthly social media analytics and reports. Identify high-preforming ideas and new methods to implement.
- Monitor social media platforms through AgoraPulse and Brand24 to identify brand perception through social listening.
- Assist on paid social media and Google ad campaigns.
- Engage in weekly professional development sessions as part of the summer internship cohort, cultivating collaboration, strengthening skills, and encouraging continuous learning.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills Required:
- Knowledge of social media platforms and algorithms.
- Familiarity with social media monitoring and analytical platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain and increase professional knowledge of the latest trends, practices, programs, and applications evolving in social media/networking.
- Experience with the basic usage of most social media platforms including analytics, and community management.
- Excellent communication (written, verbal, listening and public speaking) skills.
- Must be service oriented with a focus on helping others.
- Ability to multi-task, set priorities and achieve desired goals.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and ability to learn software/new programs quickly.
- Familiarity with podcast production (preferred but not required)
Qualifications (Education Requirements/Experience):
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in marketing, design, or a related field.
- Successful completion of a background check and current and/or ability to obtain the following clearances: Child Abuse, State Police, and FBI Fingerprinting.
- Must be a natural storyteller, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and closely within a team.
- Demonstrated agreement with and vision for the stated mission, philosophy, values, and goals of Portage Learning.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, projectors, filing cabinets and fax machines.

- Regularly required to sit; talk and hear, use hands to type, file, handle or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
- May require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk, lift, carry and move light to medium weight. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and learn technical information.
- Light lifting is required. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force to constantly move objects.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a seasonal internship, full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Must be able to work from the office located in Chippewa Township, PA.
Travel:
This job may require occasional travel. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
