The Senior PR Associate, Media Relations, is responsible for supporting, developing and implementing the communications, PR and media relations strategy for ACP. This individual will work with management and other departments to support College goals, business objectives, strategic priorities, and activities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Developing media strategies to enhance and expand ACP brand recognition, visibility, and thought leadership. 
  • Developing and executing plans and tactics to communicate and promote ACP’s public, clinical, ethical and educational policies via the news media, coordination with social media, and member communications channels to increase their visibility and adoption for impact in healthcare.
  • Addressing media calls, vetting requests, finding spokespersons, providing backup material and assisting in maintaining a database of contacts. Preparing College leadership and others for media interviews and public exposure.
  • Working with management to pursue thought leadership opportunities with various media outlets. 
  • Supporting media relations activities for Annals of Internal Medicine.
  • Working with management to plan and execute PR/media strategy and tactics for ACP’s annual Meeting, including online media content and strategies to enhance and expand ACP’s visibility via the news media. 
  • Providing comprehensive analysis and results reporting for all initiatives and projects.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining current content on ACP online Press Room.
  • Proactively monitoring media and relevant websites to identify issues and analyze public and media perceptions of key issues and priorities. 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field. 
  • 5-7 years of experience in media relations or public relations, including direct experience with news outlets and all aspects of media relations and journalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute media strategies and write media material, successfully handle crises/issues management and difficult communications challenges
  • Strong familiarity with social media trends and demonstrated experience implementing social media campaigns and reporting and interpreting metrics
  • Uses independent judgement and strategic expertise to analyze new/emerging technologies, communications platforms and trends, and how they impact target audiences. 
  • High degree of initiative and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and respond quickly and professionally under pressure and in crisis situations. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills essential to represent College viewpoint to various audiences.
  • Knowledge of U.S. medical system, medical terminology and health/public policy issues.
