Reporting to the Creative Content Director, the Senior Manager, Social Media & Engagement will create platform- and audience- tailored strategy for all organic and paid content on PHS’s social accounts (currently Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest and LinkedIn). This includes owning social and content strategies, writing and producing all associated content, and collaborating with internal teams on execution, as needed. Additionally, the role reports on the success of PHS’s social media campaigns, creates resources to help internal and external partners spread the word about PHS’s work, manages the organization’s online community and provides customer service to PHS constituents. The Senior Manager, Social Media & Engagement will refine our social media approach on existing platforms and define it in new ones, with the ultimate goals of creating best-in-class content to grow and empower our community.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, implement, and own PHS’s organic and paid social media content strategy, creating content and writing captions aligned with brand voice and tone, across the organization’s current platforms
  • Develop and maintain editorial calendars that reflects all channels and create a timeline for each campaign according to the content strategy, balancing consistency with experimentation
  • Independently generate and execute new content ideas (organic/paid) that align with and expand on the brand's mission and narrative
  • Work collaboratively with other Marketing team members and cross-departmentally
  • Guide curation of UGC and collaborate with PHS field teams to collect content
  • Run reports and analyze the success of PHS organic content, sharing these findings with the Marketing team and related stakeholders. Optimize strategies based on data, while understanding analytics area helpful tool to inform, not a playbook.
  • Develop and maintain social media toolkits to help internal and external partners share the word about PHS
  • Refine community management strategy and guidelines, providing excellent external customer service online and internally. Translate stakeholder requests into clear solutions,offering guidance or alternatives where needed. Work closely with these partners to ensure alignment.
  • Execute work primarily through the Marketing pipeline (e.g.:paid campaigns, digital content), while supporting the internal creative request pipeline, as needed
  • Present work confidently, articulating the rationale behind the strategy
  • Manage multiple projects at once, while adhering to deadlines and budget parameters 
  • Direct and oversee any external vendors and/or interns aiding in the implementation of social media content

Qualifications + Specifications:

Minimum degree required: Bachelor's degree preferred 

Years of experience: Minimum 4-7 years experience 

Licenses/Certifications: None required. Project management certification a plus. 

Knowledges, Skills, Abilities Required for Success: 

  • A creative, independent thinker who is ahead of trends and understands of how paid and organic content and strategies work together, with ability to reach creative solutions independently
  • Experience working in the social media and content creation space, preferably on an in-house marketing team or within an agency environment
  • Expert fluency in major social media platforms. Should be able to effectively communicate these concepts with co-workers who may not have this knowledge
  • Thorough brainstorming and visioning skills, with experience building compelling creative briefs for both internal partners and external creators
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on strong copy writing
  • Passion for gardening, plants, and community
  • Deep understanding of storytelling, an eye for visual curation and strong editorial judgment
  • Design capabilities, with ability to follow artistic direction
  • Proficient in industry-standard content creation software, such as Canva and/or Figma
  • Video, photography, or motion graphics experience
  • Organized, detail-and deadline-oriented, and able to manage budgets
  • Proven experience with social media scheduling platforms(Sprout)and social media analytics platforms (Sprout, Instagram Insights, etc)
  • Commitment to the mission of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and PHS Values

Additional skills considered a plus: 

  • Custom illustration
  • Working knowledge of Adobe CC (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe After Effects and/or Premiere Pro)

Physical Demands: 
This is largely a sedentary role that requires looking at a computer screen for extended periods of time; however, some physical demands are required.  

Standard Hours (including travel, evening, and weekend hours): 
PHS’s standard office hours are 9 AM to 5 PM at team member’s designated workspace. Some teams and positions work alternate hours because of the nature of their role at PHS. Your Business Unit’s Working Norms document will identify alternative hours, if applicable.  

Flower Show Requirements: 
Hours preparing for the show and the duration of the show may not follow your regular work schedule. Your Flower Show schedule will depend upon your regular position or your temporary position supporting the Flower Show. You may be required to stand for long periods of time, do extensive walking, and lift up to 25 pounds.
