Madrigal is a biopharmaceutical company pursuing novel therapeutics for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), also known as metabolic dysfunction associated steatohepatitis (MASH). Our first therapy, Rezdiffra (resmetirom), was granted accelerated approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of adults with NASH with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis (consistent with stages F2 to F3 fibrosis) and is being studied in a Phase 3 trial for the treatment of NASH with compensated cirrhosis. The Sr. Director of R&D Communications is responsible for shaping and executing communication strategies that highlight and support the organizationβs research and development initiatives. This role serves as the bridge between the R&D function and internal and external audiences, ensuring that scientific research, pipeline innovations, and thought leadership are clearly communicated, aligned with corporate objectives, and positioned to enhance brand reputation and stakeholder engagement. Responsibilities: Strategic Communications Leadership: Develop and lead integrated communication strategies for R&D that align with corporate messaging and business goals. Serve as an advisor to R&D leadership on internal and external communications. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Investor Relations, Marketing, Patient Advocacy, Regulatory, etc.) to ensure cohesive messaging. Collaborate with R&D and Medical Affairs teams to shape external data announcements and disease education content. Scientific Storytelling: Translate complex scientific information into compelling narratives for a variety of audiences including media, investors, regulators, healthcare professionals, and the general public. Manage the development of scientific content such as white papers, press releases, executive presentations, publications, and digital media assets. Partner with the Patient Advocacy team to share scientific insights with patient leaders and capture patient input throughout the drug development process. Serve as a thought-partner to the investor relations team, contributing to scientific disclosures and message development. Internal Communications: Foster engagement and alignment within the R&D organization through town halls, newsletters, intranet content, and employee campaigns. Provide communications support for Chief Medical Officer. Champion a culture of innovation, collaboration, and transparency across the R&D teams. External Communications & Media Relations: Lead media strategy for R&D announcements including milestones, partnerships, product development, and clinical trial results. Act as a liaison for R&D subject matter experts during interviews, events, and conferences. Play a leadership role in strategic communications planning for medical congresses and journal publications. Reinforce Madrigalβs scientific thought leadership through PR and social media activities. Requirements: 10-15 years of experience in corporate communications, public affairs, or a related field, with at least 5-7 years in a leadership or strategic role, preferably within R&D, healthcare, biotech, or pharmaceutical environments. Candidates with advanced scientific or clinical training (e.g., PhD, MD, PharmD) or prior experience in healthcare roles outside of communications may be considered with fewer years of direct communications experience, provided they demonstrate strong capabilities in science-driven communication strategy. Proven ability to translate complex scientific information into accessible and impactful content. Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills. Strong strategic thinking, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Experience working with senior executives and influencing at all levels of an organization. Deep understanding of the R&D lifecycle, from early discovery to clinical development. Familiarity with regulatory communications and scientific publication practices. Experience managing agencies, vendors, and cross-functional communications teams. Location: Hybrid work schedule with 3 days onsite at the Conshohocken PA office. Compensation: Base salary is determined by several factors that include, but are not limited to, a successful candidate's qualifications, skills, education, experience, business needs, and market demands.
