Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) provides publicly funded social services for people in Allegheny County. As the largest human services funder in our region, serving more than 200,000 residents each year through more than 300 community-based agencies, our purpose is to support people during their most vulnerable times. Some of our services include child welfare, family strengthening and youth programs, the homeless system, behavioral health services, supports for people with intellectual disabilities or autism, and help for older adults.
We are currently seeking candidates for the following opportunities with our Executive Office in Communications & Public Affairs:
Senior Public Affairs Officer: $100-$110k/annually
Brief Overview: The ideal candidate will be an experienced, strategic professional capable of leading and elevating the agencyβs communications and public engagement efforts. This senior leader will be responsible for shaping and executing the departmentβs overarching communication strategyβensuring consistent, compelling messaging across all audiences, platforms, and initiatives.
Public Affairs Officer: $80-$88k/annually
Brief Overview: This role is ideal for a passionate communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is committed to helping the public better understand and access vital human services. As the public voice of the agency, the PIO will play a central role in simplifying complex policies, amplifying impact stories, and ensuring transparent communication with the public, media, and internal stakeholders. This position requires an analytical thinker with strong writing skills, a deep sense of curiosity, and a passion for public service.
