Job Title: Public Relations and Marketing Specialist
Reports To: Director of Development and Communications
Location: Overbrook School for the Blind, Philadelphia, PA
Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Overbrook School for the Blind (OSB) seeks a dynamic and creative Public Relations and Marketing Specialist to lead and execute strategic communications that elevate OSB’s visibility, enhance brand recognition, and engage diverse audiences across digital and traditional platforms. This position plays a critical role in telling the story of OSB—our mission, impact, and community—through compelling content and effective public engagement.
Develop and implement marketing strategies to build brand awareness and promote OSB’s programs, events, and campaigns.
Ensure consistent messaging and visual identity across all platforms.
Create promotional materials including brochures, newsletters, flyers, and campaign assets.
Manage media relations, including writing and distributing press releases, pitching stories, and serving as a liaison with local and national media.
Cultivate relationships with media outlets, community influencers, and stakeholders.
Monitor and report on media coverage and PR metrics.
Oversee the design, content, and functionality of OSB’s website, ensuring accessibility and relevance.
Create, schedule, and manage content for OSB’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.).
Monitor engagement metrics and adjust strategies to grow audiences and reach.
Identify and share powerful stories of OSB students, alumni, faculty, and families.
Promote OSB events, announcements, and partnerships to the public.
Partner with development staff to align communications with fundraising and campaign goals.
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
3–5 years of experience in communications, PR, or marketing (nonprofit or education sector preferred).
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.).
Proficiency in website CMS (e.g., WordPress), social media platforms, and email marketing tools.
Knowledge of accessibility best practices in digital communication is a plus.
Creative, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a mission-driven environment.
