Summary

The Program Manager advances the mission of Literacy Pittsburgh by working with staff to help learners to achieve their academic and workforce development goals. The position manages one of Literacy Pittsburgh’s adult education instructional teams; English language learning, college and career readiness, partner programming, digital skills or academics and curricula. The program manager is responsible for leading and supervising a team of instructors, staff, and/or volunteers to ensure a high-quality learning experience for students while meeting contract and funding requirements. This is a full time exempt position.

 Essential Functions

  • Lead an adult education instruction team to ensure a high-quality student experience with enrollment, instruction, and evaluation that leads to strong student outcomes
  • Lead the team to achieve key metrics including enrollment, learning gains, and outcomes such as employment, post-secondary transitions, and HSE attainment. 
  • Supervise, assist in hiring, and coach a team of instructors, staff, or volunteers, including goal setting, coaching, support and conducting performance reviews.
  • Lead the team to utilize the agency curriculum and to adapt to curriculum evolution.
  • Lead the team in the use of technology to enhance service delivery.
  • Lead the team to support and implement agency strategic initiatives outlined in the organizational goals and strategic plan. 
  • Engage in, and track team engagement in, professional development including relevant professional learning communities. 
  • Plan lessons and teach at least one class.
  • Arrange for assessment and evaluation of students, including collection of data and outcomes.
  • Represent Literacy Pittsburgh as an expert in adult education instructional topics.
  • Participate with internal agency committees and teams and relevant external partnerships. 
  • Provide other education services as needed by the agency. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

  Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field 
    • 3 years of experience teaching, tutoring, or training adults
    • 2 years of supervisory experience
    • Proficiency in workplace digital platforms

 Work Environment 

  • Full-time, some evening work required.
  • This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for local travel.

 Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Requires the ability to lift, pull and push up to 25 pounds.
