Lancaster Farming Newspaper is looking for a Digital Production Assistant to join our team! This role is ideal for a motivated, creative, and tech-savvy individual who thrives in both collaborative and independent settings. The primary focus will be on podcast production, with additional responsibilities in web and video production as needed.

LancasterFarming.com, an award-winning agricultural news outlet, is at the forefront of digital content, delivering in-depth web stories, videos, and podcasts. We currently produce two popular podcasts: The Industrial Hemp Podcast and FarmHouse.

What are we looking for?

We’re seeking someone who’s as comfortable around people as they are around tech. Our ideal candidate has a strong work ethic, a natural curiosity, and an eagerness to learn. This is a role for someone who’s hands-on and ready to dive into new challenges, quick to pick up new skills, and willing to follow both directions and creative instincts. We want someone who is unafraid to ask questions, think big ideas, or take big swings that sometimes miss.

Key Responsibilities

• Audio Production: Set up and manage recording sessions, handle audio equipment, and edit recordings into engaging content.
• Research: Conduct thorough research on a wide range of topics, finding unique angles and relevant experts.
• Interview Prep: Craft thoughtful, engaging questions that add depth to interviews.
• Collaboration & Communication: Engage in productive brainstorming sessions, communicate ideas clearly, and proactively keep teammates updated on ongoing projects.
• Web Production: Write coherent summaries and engaging copy for podcasts and videos, assist teammates with gathering supplementary assets for web content and/or videos.

Qualifications

• Podcast Production Experience: Minimum of 2+ years in podcast production or similar digital audio roles, with a portfolio of previous audio work.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of audio production software (We use GarageBand) and recording equipment, with an ear for clean audio and effective storytelling.
• Research & Editorial Skills: Demonstrated curiosity, research capability, and storytelling instincts, with a knack for creating content that resonates with listeners.
• Adaptability & Initiative: Comfortable adapting to new tools, working under tight deadlines, and jumping in on new projects or tasks when needed.
• Team-Oriented Mindset: Excellent communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and the ability to take and give constructive feedback.

Bonus Skills

• Agriculture: Did you grow up on a farm, work on one, or have friends in farming? Are you familiar with the Lancaster Farming newspaper and the agricultural world?
• Music: Do you play an instrument or have a good ear for sound? Do you sing, have a natural sense of rhythm, or think about the connection between sound and space?
