Job Overview
Citadel’s Copywriter & Content Strategist is responsible for creating compelling, on-brand content across various marketing channels to support strategic business goals. This role combines creativity with strategy to produce both short- and long-form written content for advertising, web, print, video, and more—while ensuring alignment with brand voice and marketing objectives. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, this person plays a key role in ideating campaigns, crafting messaging frameworks, copywriting, defining and implementing strategic content initiatives, and enhancing omnichannel marketing efforts. Writing assignments and responsibilities vary widely across channels, and this role brings to life Citadel’s brand tone of voice through each.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Content Creation
- Write and ideate both quippy, short form copy (omnichannel ad campaigns, branch signage, UX copy, etc.), as well as longer form content (landing pages, blogs, direct mail, video scripting, product sheets, brochures, etc.)
- Provide high-quality first drafts to expedite workflows and support collaborative team efforts
- Contribute to scripting, storyboarding, and/or discussion guides for video and/or podcast productions
- Conduct research to develop content and present informed ideas
- Understand Citadel’s products/services and communicate them effectively
- Support existing search engine optimization (SEO), email, and/or social media efforts as needed by writing with best practices in mind
Content Strategy & Activation
- Recommend appropriate content strategies across webpages, campaign landing pages, promotional email, in-app content, video, in-person signage and experiences, and other channels
- Contribute to new messaging strategies, brand positioning, and value propositions
- Adhere to established messaging and value props to deliver content in the appropriate formats across a variety of omnichannel campaigns
- Ensure consistency across formats and platforms in line with brand voice and editorial guidelines
- Support internal communications or PR as needed
Collaboration & Teamwork
- Comfortable working independently, as well as part of a creative team partnered with creative director, designers, developers, data analysts, and/or channel owners to produce high-performing content in consistent formats
- Play an active role in the creative brainstorming process for assigned campaigns
- Work closely with the Content Manager, Digital Writer, and Social Media Specialist to ensure cross-channel content alignment
- Align with project managers, channel leads, and Content Manager to understand project expectations and produce content with the needs of the business and the internal client in mind
Workflow Management
- Contribute to multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Actively participate in Marketing team meetings to align with the creative process and ensure adherence to strategic direction
- Regularly communicate status updates to management
- Stay up to date with content marketing and advertising trends
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Work Experience
- 5-8+ years of agency copywriting and/or content strategy experience preferred; and/or combination of agency and in-house experience
- Experience in financial services a plus, but not required
- Portfolio and/or writing samples required, including work across a wide variety of digital and print mediums
- Experience researching new brands and business lines to onboard quickly to competitive landscape, brand and product differentiators, and brand guidelines
- Experience working within Wrike or other similar project management software
- Experience with wireframing, site mapping, and content architecture
- Ability to work collaboratively with a creative team, including designers, developers, other writers, and researchers to execute end-to-end creative concepts
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, etc.

- Understanding of the business implication of decisions
- Ability to demonstrate situational leadership
- Maintain confidentiality, promote integrity, and support the corporate mission
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and outside service-related agencies and vendors
Education
- BA or BS degree required (Journalism, Marketing, Advertising, Communications or similar field)
- Masters degree preferred
