Gift of Life Howie’s House serves as a home away from home for transplant patients and their families by providing temporary, affordable lodging, meals, and supportive services to those who travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for transplant-related care. Gift of Life Howie’s House is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization.

Description

This is an excellent opportunity for an undergraduate majoring/minoring in communications, writing, marketing or public relations to support Gift of Life Howie’s House House’s fund development and communications initiatives. The Communications and Development Intern will work alongside the development team at the House and take an active role to support and communicate the mission.

Communications and Development Intern responsibilities include:

• Support social media communications: create, write and publish/schedule posts for the House’s social media pages including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn to develop and increase mission’s visibility and community interactions, expand social media platform’s audiences.

• Support recognition and cultivation activities such as thank you calls and correspondence

• Create video content for various social media and marketing purposes

• Update and write copy for website

• Support management of electronic and manual filing system, retrieves information from files when needed

• Enter and update constituent/gifts data in database

• Prepare, organize and support mass mailings and general mail

• Help develop and write copy for various correspondence and communications pieces

• Interview guests/volunteers/supporters via phone or in person to develop stories for various campaigns and communications.

• Proofread copy for spelling, grammar, and layout, making appropriate changes necessary to achieve accuracy and clarity

• Complete research and support special projects/events/writing assignments as assigned by Development team.

• Attend and support various events and activities to facilitate communications content

• Performs miscellaneous clerical duties and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Interns must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program, or have graduated within the last year. 
Applicants should have superior written and oral communication skills, ability to write persuasively, and able to communicate the mission and its associated programs. Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office, a strong interest in fund development, writing, and social media use. Previous experience working in a professional office environment preferred. Qualified candidates will demonstrate poise, tact and diplomacy; will act in a courteous, positive and responsive manner; will possess the ability to work independently or as part of a team. There may be fundraising events that the intern is asked to attend with the rest of the team.

Preferred Full Time: 8:30 AM – 5 PM, On-site, Monday – Friday

Part Time: 8:30 AM – 5 PM, On-site, At least three days per week.

We are open to full-time or part-time interns.
