    Responsibilities

    • ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE: The Director Public Relations provides leadership and guidance to the administration and staff by recommending and maintaining effective communication strategies to increase public awareness of district programs, events, services, and goals through print, web, and social media
    • Models and exemplifies the district's core values
    • Develop and maintain a communications/marketing plan to maintain public awareness of district programs, events, and services with a focus on best-practices and developing trends
    • Attend and provide coverage of major activities as requested by the District (e.g., Veteran's Day program, Graduation, Prom, Band Festival, selected sports events, Musical, plays)
    • Coordinate, at Superintendent or designee's direction, crisis management communication plan for the district
    • Serve as liaison between the District and news media to promote programs and services including developing, writing, and submitting articles to the local media and District website once a week
    • Produce and review the layout, writing, and printing of District publications (e.g., annual calendar, newsletters, etc.)
    • Serve as webmaster for the district website which includes responsibility for writing content for the main site and overseeing content and layout of school websites
    • The website should be reviewed and/or updated regularly
    • Identify and recommend new communication strategies and outlets for sharing District communications
    • Develop and conduct training/workshops on communications strategies and technologies
    • Serve as a liaison with the community and stakeholders to maintain positive relationships
    • Develops and sends media releases to print and broadcast outlets
    • Manages and coordinates media requests for information
    • Responds to crisis situations both during and after normal working hours to receive information from administration and to convey that information to families, staff, and the media
    • Organizes special events, both in-person and virtual, to promote community awareness of, investment in, and support of the district and its schools
    • Manages and grows district's presence on social media through the district's social media outlets (e.g., Facebook, Twitter (X), Instagram)
    • Creates, edits, and proofreads written, online, and video materials for accuracy and messaging aligned with the district's mission and values
    • Prepares a number of district materials including plans, event programs, news releases, letters, presentations, etc., for the purpose of documenting activities, providing information, and promoting the district
    • Ensures that all written and verbal communications from the district are accurate and adhere to established district standards
    • Counsels district administration in strategic communication and communication issues as related to the district mission, vision, and core values
    • Maintains and develops positive relationships with students, administration, teachers, staff, board of directors, and community members
    • Responds to issues that may result in negative impact and develops a plan of action to handle those situations
    • Identifies and helps shape policies and procedures in the public interest ?
    • Oversees and manages the district's branding resources including logo and slogan and ensures logos are being used according to district's style guide
    • Manages and coordinates SchoolMessenger notification system
    • Communicates school delay and closing information to families and staff in the event of inclement weather or other emergency before, during, and after normal working hours
    • Directs and produces all video content on video boards and operates the video board during events
    • Develops and markets advertising opportunities for local businesses and organizations in district publications and during sporting events via video board
    • Serves as an active member of the West Jefferson Hills Education Foundation, Hall of Fame, and Alumni organizations assisting in program development and fundraising opportunities
    • Develops public-facing forms, paper and electronic, for district and building administration as necessary to create opportunities for efficiency in communication
    • Conducts formal and informal research, including monitoring social media, news outlets etc
    • to determine public opinion and attitude
    • Create opportunities for public community and business partnerships to support the district and schools in educational endeavors
    • Assist in the development of employee recruitment and retention through events and communication strategies
    • Handles all workmen's compensation claims and investigations
    • Manages and coordinates open records requests
    • Takes on special projects, as deemed a priority and necessary, based on the mission, vision, and core values of the district
    • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent
