Description

The Office of Communications Student Worker will support ongoing operations of the Office of Communications and related College needs, including printing, digital marketing, photography, social media, external communications, copywriting, event support, and website needs. 
This role is a generalist role, and will enable the student worker to gain experience in a variety of communications and marketing projects and operational responsibilities, building a portfolio along with direct work experience relevant to a variety of future roles. 

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Creating and editing of brand documents through the Office of Communications
  • External website updates and changes
  • Internal communications efforts such as the Campus Events Calendar, All Campus emails, and graphic and handout creation as needed. 
  • Supports event logistics and needs through the Office of Communications in tandem with other departments at the College
  • Manages printing of College materials using digital press in the Graphic Communications & Print Technology lab
  • Event and activities photography
  • Social media content creation
  • Administrative support to the Office of Communications
  • Ensure compliance with College brand throughout work efforts.

Typical Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities: 

  • Basic understanding of website structures and functionality
  • Quality writing skills for readability and communications
  • Ability to work in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat
  • Familiarity with event planning and execution
  • Ability to manage digital files including photos, graphics, and documents. 
  • Basic design skills to create graphics and documents
  • Photography and/or videography skills and interest
  • Ability to coordinate details and follow through on day-to-day tasks
  • Understanding of printing process and management of printed items
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 
  • Completion of at least one semester in an associate or bachelor’s degree program. 
  • Proven writing skills (samples to be provided)
  • Ability to work within website CMS and SharePoint tools
  • Foundational knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat programs
  • Basic photography and videography skills
  • Dedication to following instructions and paying attention to details
  • Initiation on work and problem solving skills
  • Understanding of digital printing press functionality and printing best practices 
  • Understanding of graphic and design principles to create and edit documents

Work Environment and/or Physical Demands:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. 
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Conditions may require walking, stooping, climbing, pushing, pulling, heavy lifting (less than or equal to 50 pounds), high climbing, bending, working in awkward positions handling equipment and materials.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
Required Training and Other Conditions of Employment: 
  • Must have own laptop or other computer equipment to work remotely
  • Must be available for regular checkins and meetings regarding workload and job responsibilities.
