Description

The student in this position will work with the department to better communicate our activities with the campus, alumni, and other constituencies. They will prepare and post stories with photos/videos for the ENVS website, including department-supported minors, and alumni outreach. The student in this position will report to and be mentored by Patrick Hurley (ENVS). There may be times when they will need to communicate with personnel in Campus Communications. 

 

Responsibilities: 

The student in this position will work with Patrick Hurley (ENVS) in identifying topics/events appropriate for coverage on the departmental website, including the various minors supported by the department, and other communications. They will attend events, take photos/videos when appropriate, perform basic interviews (in person or via e-mail) if needed, write up the story, edit the story based on feedback, and post to the website. They will work with personnel in Campus Communications to learn how to post/maintain the departmental website pages using the appropriate branding/writing formats. Hours are flexible and can usually work around student’s schedule and other responsibilities. Weekly hours will range from 0-4 hours.

Communication and writing skills  

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Knowledge of website maintenance 

ENVS major/minor or minoring in one of the departments ENVS-focused minors
