Description

The social media assistant is a 10 hour per week position and is primarily responsible to complete tasks related to social media. Due to the nature of posting on social media, some hours may be completed in the office and some will be completed out of the office.

$8.00/hour



Responsibilities

Primary Duties

1. *Primary responsibility* - perform various social media tasks such as developing content and posting to Messiah’s official Instagram (primary platform student will assist with), Facebook, X, Snapchat, and YouTube accounts on a frequent basis; attend University-run or sponsored events to provide live social media coverage; and assist communication specialist with social media strategy and content development, as needed.
2. Maintain and calculate the University's monthly social media metrics including reach, engagement, etc.
3. Create simple social media images using a design or photo editing program.
4. Assist in writing brief stories and articles for Messiah University News as needed.
5. Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.

Secondary Duties

1. General office duties such as running on-campus errands and preparing media kits
2. Other duties as assigned



Qualifications

Experience Required

Basic graphic design knowledge is helpful but not required. Strong writing skills and a solid understanding of social media platforms used at Messiah (Facebook, Instagram, X, Snapchat, YouTube) is required. 

Applicants MUST own a quality smart phone and be willing to use it to post to University social media channels.

Experience Preferred

 

Skills, Characteristics Required

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Incredibly creative and excited by changing social media trends
• Detail-oriented, organized and able to work independently
• Capable of managing multiple deadlines
• Competent at proofreading
• Basic knowledge of AP style (a style guide will be provided)

Special Working Conditions

Student workers share an office with other work-study students in the Office of Marketing and Communications and, therefore, must be able to focus even if other conversations are taking place in the same space. 

Some duties of the position require walking around campus to obtain photos and cover events.

Dress Code Requirements

Students are expected to dress in appropriate attire when covering assignments; shoes are required.
