POSITION DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a Property Underwriter (Level II OR Sr. Level III) for our National Accounts Insurance team in our Cleveland office. We are also open to hiring at our office in Pittsburgh. This is a hybrid position requiring three days in office/market.

As Property Underwriter (Level II OR Sr. Level III), you will have a chance to use your marketing and analytical skills. Specifically, you will analyze and underwrite new and renewal business under general direction, utilizing established underwriting frameworks within delegated authority levels on assignments of higher technical complexity, ensuring high-level service to customers. This is a market-facing position; therefore, we are seeking someone with a strong sales execution mindset and knowledge of property policies.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.
  • Develop, maintain, and collaborate with Line of Business representatives and other business-related needs, as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition and work with customers and distributors to determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions.
  • Support the organization's sales culture by being a Help Point for agents, brokers, and customers.
  • Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
  • Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
  • Qualify accounts to align with the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
  • Make broker/customer and on-site calls with a planned and well prepared purpose.

Basic Qualifications (Level II):

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing field, OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area, OR
  • Certified Insurance Apprentice, including an Associate Degree, and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR
  • Certified Insurance Apprentice, including an Associate Degree, and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
  • Knowledge of lines of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines.
  • Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.

Basic Qualifications (Sr. Level):

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area, OR
  • Certified Insurance Apprentice, including an Associate Degree, and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR
  • Certified Insurance Apprentice, including an Associate Degree, and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
  • Experience working in a team environment.

  • Established broker relationships (Retail, select brokers) in the Midwestern Region (Great Lakes area, in particular).
  • Technical knowledge of commercial property underwriting.
  • Sales execution mindset.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
