The Manger of Communications & Audience Strategy work with the Director of Membership and Annual Fund in the creation of marketing communications efforts to fulfill goals of the Membership Department. They oversee the Member Representative team plus additional based on growing department.
Specifically, you will:
Campaign Management & Communication Strategy
Oversee the execution of direct response campaigns including email, direct mail, and telemarketing, utilizing segmentation to drive renewals, upgrades, and annual fund growth.
Manage and create automated onboarding, engagement, and recapture strategies tailored to diverse audiences such as members, visitors, and program participants.
Develop, write, edit, and coordinate audience-focused copy for membership and annual fund communications across email, web, social media, print, and onsite channels; contribute to and edit direct mail copy provided by external partners to ensure clarity, flow, tone, and alignment with campaign goals.
Support the institutional list management strategy with key stakeholders, ensuring best practices in database set-up, automation, and data integrity.
Coordinate communication timing and content delivery across museum departments to maintain a cohesive institutional and membership voice and maximize audience engagement.
Manage external mail house partnerships, including inventory oversight and deployment scheduling, to ensure the timely delivery of high-volume physical and digital communications.
Production, Collateral & Website
Oversee the production, inventory, and distribution of onsite collateral, including signage, brochures, and promotional materials.
Perform meticulous proofreading for acquisition and renewal materials to ensure consistency and accuracy across all print and digital touchpoints.
Manage membership webpage updates in collaboration with the Communications and IIT teams to ensure seamless and up-to-date user experience.
Administer the list exchange process for direct mail acquisition, managing requests and building partnerships with external organizations to expand audience reach.
Strategic Planning & Financial Management
Collaborate on the department’s annual revenue and expense budget including identifying key resources.
Track, report, and analyze the performance of membership initiatives to inform campaign strategy and decision-making.
Use performance analysis to make recommendations that inform short- and long-term department planning.
Systems, Data & Performance Analysis
Partner with IIT and DevOps to streamline workflows, automate manual processes where possible, and improve efficiency.
Foster cross-departmental collaboration and stay current on industry best practices.
Support the administration and segmentation of cross-institutional e-marketing tools and systems for performance tracking.
Work with key stakeholders to standardize gift entry and record maintenance, ensuring data accuracy.
Analyze email, segment, and website performance using tools such as Google Analytics to improve digital content and ensure information accuracy.
Work with DevOps and Marketing teams to translate data into actionable insights for audience engagement.
Leadership & General Support
Oversee the daily operations and professional growth of a multi-disciplinary team, including a four-person Member Representative team, with potential for future team growth.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Your background and experience include: The ideal candidate is a collaborative, detail-oriented communications professional with experience developing audience-focused campaigns, writing clear and compelling copy, using data to guide decisions, and managing projects that support membership engagement, retention, and revenue growth.
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, advertising, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
Prior experience in membership, marketing, or communications (3+ years)
Experience as a direct supervisor for a team responsible for sales, stewardship, and communications (3+ years)
Experience meeting membership or fundraising revenue goals, including renewal, retention, and campaign performance
Strong project management skills, with experience planning, prioritizing, and executing multiple campaigns or initiatives on deadline
Proven problem-solving skills with communications experience, including writing and audience strategy
Strong writing and editing skills, with experience developing clear, compelling copy for email, web, social media, print, and donor or member communications
Experience with email marketing tools, social media platforms, and Google Analytics
Experience updating website content or working with content management systems in collaboration with communications and technology teams
Experience coordinating print and digital collateral production, including proofreading, vendor coordination, inventory, or distribution
Experience supporting budget planning, expense tracking, or resource planning for campaigns or department initiatives
Experience working cross-functionally with internal teams and external vendors or partners to manage communications projects
Experience using CRM or donor database systems for segmentation, reporting, and performance tracking; familiarity with Raiser’s Edge preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Exceptional organizational, written, and oral communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships
Excellent attention to detail, with flexibility and creativity
Familiarity with the Museum membership model preferred
Position and Compensation Details
The salary for this position is $63,000.
This position is Full-Time, Exempt, and 35 hours per week.
This position reports to Director of Membership and Annual Fund
Physical requirements:
Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus
