Description
The Digital Engineer IV leads moderate complexity design projects, defines basic concepts for engineering problems. They also lead internal and external technical moderate complexity projects, measure and adapt project scope, and implement action plans to improve project performance.

Responsibilities
  • Independently design and execute open-ended, complex troubleshooting and debugging tasks for digital electronics and systems
  • Independently perform design analysis on complex digital electronic systems
  • Formulate complex design concepts and technical plan for engineering project based on internal and external requirements
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to team members professional development applicable to Digital Engineering
  • Design technical approach, requirements, and execution of formal written reports for complex projects to communicate test progress, test results, and other relevant information to project stakeholders and management
  • Architect, create, update, and manage test data for use in the various stages of software testing for complex digital systems
  • Define project architecture, research and assess integration of new technology for complex hardware and software projects
  • Work closely with senior engineers to interpret customer requirements, shape technical architecture, implementation strategy, and engineering cost estimation
  • Hands-on experience with integrated and standalone ADCs and DACs
  • Ability to independently diagnose complex hardware/firmware issues, determine root cause across hardware and software boundaries, and develop robust solutions suitable for production environments
  • Hands-on experience designing and troubleshooting DC/DC switching power supplies and power conversion circuitry


Qualifications

Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related fieldΒ 
  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in a specialized functional discipline
    • OR (12) years of experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelors Degree
    • OR (6) years of experience may be considered w/ a Masters Degree
    • OR (3) years of experience may be considered w/ a PhD
  • Experience designing, developing, and testing mixed-signal electronic systems, from initial concept through production
  • Proficiency in bare-metal, deterministic real-time firmware development and debugging in C and assembly, including microsecond-scale applications on resource-constrained microcontrollers
  • Practical experience with FPGA/CPLD firmware development and debugging
  • Experience designing both circuitry and firmware for mixed-signal monitoring and control, including voltage, current, and digital logic systems
  • Familiarity with common embedded communication interfaces, including UART, SPI, IΒ²C, and USB
  • Experience developing PC-based user interfaces for monitoring and controlling embedded systems
  • Familiarity with software-based closed-loop control systems, including design, implementation, troubleshooting, and optimization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Designing high-reliability electronics, particularly for defense or mission-critical applications; RF systems or RF power amplifiers are a major plus
  • Familiarity with ARM Cortex-M CPU cores, including M0+, M4, and M7, as well as NXP and other automotive-grade microcontrollers
  • Experience architecting distributed embedded systems, including high-speed microcontroller-to-FPGA interfaces and FPGA-based soft processors such as MicroBlaze, Nios, or similar
  • Developing custom/proprietary communication protocols and robust embedded data interfaces.
  • High-speed digital design, including SERDES/transceivers, LVDS, RS-422/485, clock-domain crossing, pipelining, and high-speed data paths
  • Practical experience with DSP techniques for real-time embedded applications.
