Summary

The Court Recorder is responsible for utilizing digital audio recording systems to record assigned Common Pleas court proceedings. This position requires the employee to possess strong multi-tasking skills while remaining focused in the courtroom, and the ability to follow strict guidelines regarding creation and preservation of recorded courtroom audio. This position requires an individual who understands the impact that the Court’s services have on the community.     

Essential Duties

  • Operates and monitors recording system in courtroom through the use of digital recording software.
  • Using provided digital recording software, enters “tags” and other metadata while in the courtroom during court proceedings in order to clearly identify cases on the recording.
  • During Common Pleas court proceedings, marks, maintains and secures exhibits in the absence of a representative of a filing office.
  • Using provided digital recording software, isolates digital files for specific cases to be sent for review and/or transcription based upon direction of Court Administration and/or the Court.
  • For courtrooms not utilizing digital recording software (hardware only), transfers digital files onto the County network for storage and converts any documentation related to digital recordings to a digital format for storage on the County network 
  • Perform other duties, tasks and office functions, as required.

Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Minimum of one year of general office experience.
  • Intermediate skill to use a personal computer and various software packages.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and handle confidential matters.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Accurate and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to use common sense understanding to carry out written or verbal instructions.
 
Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
  • Knowledge of FTR Digital Recording equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of court system workings.
  • Knowledge of contemporary office practices and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities.

Relevant background checks, clearances, physicals, drug tests, and any other assessments or evaluations will be conducted after an offer of employment is given per County policy.



Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have:
  • Intermediate Microsoft Outlook skills (Email and Calendar) 
  • Intermediate to Advanced Word skills
  • Basic Excel skills
 
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit; bend at the waist; and talk or hear. Occasionally, the employee will need climb stairs.  On rare occasions the employee will need to reach or work with arms above shoulder height; kneel, stoop, crouch or squat; twist or rotate at the waist while working; push, lift or carry items.

Work Environment:
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • Will work inside 100% of the time.
