The Copywriter is responsible for producing high-quality written content that supports Portage Learning’s mission and brand. This role involves creating clear, engaging, and persuasive copy for a variety of platforms while maintaining a consistent organizational voice. The Copywriter will focus on storytelling that inspires audiences while incorporating SEO best practices to ensure digital visibility and reach.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

- Write, edit, and proofread copy for websites, blogs, newsletters, email campaigns, social media, print materials, and other communications.
- Write profiles on future, current, and/or former students of Portage Learning.
- Edit “First Person” essays from scholarship recipients and other submitted materials.
- Develop storytelling content that showcases student success, institutional impact, and Portage Learning’s mission.
- Maintain a consistent brand voice and tone across all platforms and materials.
- Collaborate with communications, marketing, and production teams to ensure alignment between copy and visual elements.
- Conduct background research and interviews to develop accurate, compelling content.
- Apply SEO best practices to digital copy, ensuring content is optimized for search engines while remaining reader-friendly.
- Assist in the development of advertising and promotional campaigns with persuasive and creative copy.
- Review and refine content for clarity, accuracy, grammar, and compliance with brand standards.
- Stay informed about writing, communications, and SEO trends to enhance content strategy.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills Required:
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proven ability to craft engaging stories tailored to diverse audiences.
- Strong understanding of brand voice development and consistency.
- Familiarity with SEO and digital content strategies.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and meet deadlines.
Qualifications (Education Requirements/Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- 0-3 years of professional writing experience preferred in marketing or communications.
- Portfolio demonstrating strong storytelling and content development skills.
- The ideal candidate will be a highly relational self-starter, detail-orientated, and able to work both independently and closely within a team.
- Successful completion of a background check and current and/or ability to obtain the following clearances: Child Abuse, State Police, and FBI Fingerprinting.
- Demonstrated agreement with the stated mission, philosophy, values, and goals of Portage Learning.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, projectors, and filing cabinets.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Must be able to travel to and work from the office located in Chippewa Township, PA, in addition to working remotely as necessary.
Travel:
This job rarely requires travel but would be mostly local during the business day.
