- Work to ensure that everyone inside the shipyard, own as well as subcontractors, are safe and are performing their work in accordance with our values and CORE principles.
- Ensure that all HPSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and met.
Content Development and Management:
- Create, edit, and distribute engaging content (e.g., newsletters, press releases, social media posts, and internal memos) to communicate company updates, achievements, and events.
- Manage the company’s social media channels and external communication platforms, ensuring consistency with brand messaging while keeping a wider view of the company’s long-term goals.
- Translate technical shipbuilding concepts into clear, compelling language for both internal and external audiences.
Internal Communications:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal communication, mapping out timely updates to employees on company news, policies, initiatives, and project milestones.
- Promote employee engagement through the organization of company-wide events, recognition programs, and team-building activities.
- Develop and maintain internal communication tools, such as intranet platforms and email campaigns, to foster open lines of communication across departments.
External Relations and Brand Management:
- Act as a spokesperson for the company in interactions with media, local community groups, industry organizations, and stakeholders.
- Develop and manage relationships with external media outlets to secure positive press coverage and promote the shipyard's achievements, new builds, and company initiatives.
- Ensure all public-facing materials adhere to company branding guidelines and messaging standards.
- Keep website content refreshed and up-to-date.
Event Coordination:
- Plan and execute corporate events, including but not limited to ship launch ceremonies, employee appreciation days, media tours, and community outreach programs.
- Coordinate logistics for internal and external events, including venue selection, invitations, internal logistics, program content, and post-event follow-up.
Crisis Communication and Issue Management:
- Develop and implement crisis communication plans, ensuring the company is prepared to respond to emergencies, accidents, or other critical events.
- Manage communication efforts during incidents, ensuring timely and accurate messaging to employees, media, and stakeholders.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work cross-functionally with production, human resources, government relations and leadership teams to ensure consistent and aligned communication.
- Support leadership in drafting speeches, presentations, and other communication materials for public speaking engagements or internal meetings.
- Provide counsel to senior management on communication strategies that enhance the company’s reputation and visibility.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY
This position leads two communications team members.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations or a related discipline. Minimum 5 years’ experience leading a team and proven ability to develop a team.
- Proven experience managing internal and external communications, including content creation, event planning, and media relations. Experience as a company spokesperson necessary.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and turn around materials quickly.
- Proficiency in using social media platforms, content management systems, and internal communication tools.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships across departments.
- Experience in a manufacturing, shipbuilding, or industrial environment preferred.
- Experience with sustainability or DEIB a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors, and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.
The position requires work in both office and shipyard environments. Must be able to move between office locations and shipyard areas to interact with employees and management. Occasional travel may be required for external meetings, events, and media engagements.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is an onsite, full-time/part-time, safety-sensitive position. Standard business hours apply, but occasional evenings or weekends will be required for events, launches, or urgent communications needs.
