RESPONSIBILITIES:Teaching task-based learning to high school students in grades 9–12 in the Business and Marketing Program. The teacher is responsible for instructing students in the Competency Task List for Sales, Distribution, and Marketing Operations, CIP 52.1801. Students are taught skills in marketing, merchandising, advertising, sales, entrepreneurship, personal finance, business law, and digital communication. The teacher will coordinate with local businesses, marketing professionals, and postsecondary partners to ensure students gain real-world insight and industry relevance. The teacher will be responsible for preparing students to earn industry-recognized credentials aligned to marketing and business and will guide students in completion of the NOCTI end-of-program assessment: Sales, Distribution, and Marketing Operations – PA (8156).

 

The teacher is also responsible for coordinating and co-managing the Bison Corner School Store—a student-run enterprise that provides experiential learning in merchandising, sales tracking, marketing promotions, and inventory management. This lab environment allows students to apply classroom learning to real-world scenarios. Additionally, the teacher will serve as co-advisor for DECA, an association of marketing students, and oversee student participation in DECA-sponsored events, competitions, and leadership opportunities.

 

The teacher must ensure compliance with all Career and Technical Chapter 339 regulations for the Sales, Distribution, and Marketing Operations program CIP 52.1801.

Program Description:

This program is aligned with Pennsylvania’s CIP 52.1801 standards.

A program that prepares individuals to perform marketing and operational tasks associated with the distribution and sale of products and services. Includes instruction in business technology, customer service, sales and marketing strategies, digital marketing, retailing, merchandising, and entrepreneurship. Emphasis is placed on developing professional skills, understanding consumer behavior, managing marketing information, and operating marketing-related business functions.

Courses Taught: Marketing I, Marketing II, Intro to Business/Communications & Careers, and Intro to Selling/Business Law.

 

Requirements to teach this program:

To teach this program, candidates must hold one of the following certifications:
- Marketing/Distributive Education Teacher Coordinator (1668)
- Marketing Education (1666)
- Computer & Information Technology (1603) (must add the Occupational Competency Assessment for CIP 52.1801)
Or

If you do not one of the above certifications then you can do the following:

Industry professionals may pursue a Career and Technical/Instructional 2600 certification by meeting the following criteria:
1. Provide acceptable evidence of four years wage-earning experience in the occupation to be taught;
2. Be accepted into a state-approved Career and Technical teacher preparation program at a university recognized by PDE;
3. Pass the appropriate Occupational Competency Assessment (OCA) for Sales, Distribution, and Marketing Operations;
4. Be recommended for the Career and Technical Intern Certificate by the university of enrollment;
5. Meet all legal requirements provided by the School Code and PDE regulations.
